These are books I have personally read and found helpful at different points in my recovery and spiritual growth. They approach addiction, temptation, intimacy, and freedom from different perspectives. I do not agree with every statement or recommendation in every book, but each contributed something valuable to my understanding. Read thoughtfully, alongside Scripture and with trusted support.

Books on Sexual Addiction and Recovery

Faithful and True — Mark Laaser

One of the books that helped shape my understanding of sexual addiction and Christian recovery. Laaser’s work addresses the cycle of addiction, the importance of honesty, and the need to confront both destructive behavior and the issues beneath it.

False Intimacy — Harry Schaumburg

Explores the relationship between sexual behavior and the deeper human desire for intimacy. This book can help readers consider what they may actually be seeking through destructive sexual choices.

Don’t Call It Love — Patrick Carnes

An influential work on sexual addiction, examining patterns of compulsive behavior and their consequences. Although some of its research and terminology reflect the period in which it was written, it remains useful for understanding the development of addiction-focused approaches to treatment.

Every Man’s Battle — Stephen Arterburn and Fred Stoeker

A Christian approach to sexual temptation and developing practical boundaries. Readers should consider its recommendations alongside a broader understanding of recovery, grace, and accountability.

Books on Christian Growth and Spiritual Freedom

A Way of Escape — Neil T. Anderson

Addresses temptation and spiritual freedom through the believer’s identity and relationship with Christ.

At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry — Steve Gallagher

Examines sexual sin through a strongly biblical framework, emphasizing repentance and spiritual transformation.
